Head of Business Affairs

About the Role

The Head of Business Affairs is responsible for leading the negotiation of development, licensing, production, and partnership deals in connection with scripted and unscripted programs and formats across the media landscape and with a heavy focus on podcasts, social video platforms, and video-on-demand services.

The ideal candidate…


  • Lead the day-to-day business affairs for Magnet’s portfolio companies including Dear Media, LoveSeen, and TOGETHXR. (launching in March).

  • Participate in the negotiation of and execute short-form deal memos; draft and/or review long-form agreements.

  • Manage relationships with and workflow of outside counsel.

  • Work collaboratively with the development, production, casting, marketing, and business teams to shape and implement the overall strategic plans for Magnet and its portfolio companies.

  • Pitch in on other legal matters as needed.



  • Proven expertise and experience working in media business affairs – so a law degree, active bar membership, and ideally 5+ year working in entertainment law.

  • Deep understanding of the business models and standard deal terms in both new and traditional media.

  • Strong knowledge of and passion for media largely created by and for women.

  • Awareness of television, publishing, spoken-word audio, music, digital, sports, and pop culture trends.

  • The ability and desire to be part of teams at early-stage startups.



  • Someone with a strategic view and the ability to assess risks and opportunities.

  • A leader capable of influencing through trust, communication, logic, and a constructively critical approach.

  • A grounded, collaborative team player.

  • Someone whose core values are integrity and honesty and whose colleagues describe her/him/they as a problem solver with a “get it done” approach.

  • A good business partner with the EQ and communication skills to balance creativity with data-informed decision-making.
